What Never Left Us is about stripping away excess to feel the most innate emotions. This work is about allowing in the least amount of noise and distraction to truly see yourself and to achieve peace. Abstract black and navy watercolor marks suggest the complexity of even the most essential, natural parts of ourselves. Subtle black pastel marks suggest the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves that have become essential parts of who we are. Perhaps we never expected or wanted these dark parts of ourselves, but now they have woven themselves into our very fabric. This work is a reminder to accept all the things that never left us. We thank them for making us who we are. This work is about seeing and loving the essential parts of ourselves first and foremost. Perhaps a visualization, such as this one, can allow us to see that the pattern made by all of our attributes is beautiful.
