Navy Rain
Navy Rain
Navy rain isn’t bad, but it’s also not what I had.
It’s not what I knew, because it’s without you.
It’s the middle point between blue skies and hurricanes on the rise.
It’s the need to be patient as waters we do not know how to define wash over our every line.
We must wait and grow, as time brings new life to and fro.
I need to lean into this navy rain, as to not would be a crying shame.
Navy Rain is about where you are right now, not where you thought you would be. Navy Rain is about the middle parts, the things that you do have at this moment, despite the waiting. This 8.5” x 11.5” painting on cotton rag paper features delicate white dots that represent the most fragile parts of ourselves, those that feel vulnerable in the wake of our dreams. Blue and grey pastel brushstrokes push upward on this painting’s surface, forcefully launching toward the future. The paper’s dimensions, however, lock us here in time. As these marks cannot push off this paper, we cannot push into the future. This work is about the present and how we handle it.
This cotton paper is beautifully layered with various natural fibers intertwined within its fabric. You will find irregularities in this tan- colored paper’s texture, which adds to its natural character.
