Daewangam, Part 2

Daewangam, Part 2
Daewangam, Part 2, gansai tambi paint, pen, and coffee ink on cotton rag shizen paper, 5” x 7”
Painted in Korea using coffee ink, pastel, traditional Japanese gansai tambi paint, and pen on shizen rag paper, these paintings abstractly represent the beautiful Daewangam Park on the east coast of Ulsan, South Korea. Jagged warm colored rock brightly contrasts the turquoise ocean in this historic park. This breathtaking park instinctively lead to the Daewangam series. These paintings honor the years it took to form the complex rock formations in Daewangam Park. Dark black lines recall sharp edges while grey paint represents the shadows created by layers of rocks. Natural coffee ink was used to create the abstract rock formations, recalling both their warm color and directional posture.
