The Heightened Emotions series, created in Korea with traditional gansai tambi japanese paints and natural inks, exhibits a minimalist simplicity that exudes raw emotion. This series depicts sharp edges comprised of high peaks and dramatic lows, recalling the rollercoaster that is our best and most difficult emotional experiences. Softer gansai tambi paint in a delicate sage tone softens such harsh edges, reminding us that we have buffers (support) protecting and surrounding us during our most vulnerable highs and lows. Such support may come in the form of loving friends or family; these paintings acknowledge the safety and comfort provided by such people or systems. This set of 3 paintings honors not the homeostasis that we often feel that we “should” maintain but rather looks at the more emotionally charged moments of our lives, allowing us to pay homage to the work that it took to get through each peak and valley.
