Reactive, Part 2

Reactive, Part 2
Reactive, Part 2, gansai tambi paint on cotton rag shizen paper, 5” x 7”
Two 5” x 7” paintings make up the Reactive series. Created in Korea with traditional gansai tambi japanese paints on cotton rag paper, the splattered, seemingly disparate parts or pieces of these works reverberate with energy, as varying neutral tones create three-dimensional depth. Related through repeated color combinations and close proximity to one another, these paint marks have a shooting upward motion, eluding to the presence of spreading energy. These two paintings acknowledge the way that human reactions to experiences have consequences that can spiral (and spring outward).
As with all pieces in the Interruptions collection, these 2 small painting are about the experiences that you have endured and your reactions to them while in the midst of the experiences themselves, extending also to the feeling of realizing the domino effect of our reactions. The use of black and neutral paint tones allows us to focus on the frenetic energy of the markings rather than on their differentiation from one another.
In a world abundant with distractions, this year required intentional focus to create the type of reactions to experiences that we wanted to characterize our lives. Impulsivity had to take a back seat for a thoughtful approach to healthy, balanced living. The Reactions series acknowledges the concerted effort that you put into shaping your responses to life’s interruptions.
